    DnD Spell: Abi-Dalzim’s Horrid Wilting

From the School of Necromancy, we have Abi-Dalzeem’s Horrid Wilting, also called Horrid Wilting. Imagine taking all the water out of someone, like the old woman in Spongebob. This level 8 spell can do up to 12d8 damage (pending a CON save against the spellcaster’s DC) and only sorcerers and wizards can use it. It affects a big area, a 30-foot cube.

You draw the moisture from every creature in a 30-foot cube centered on a point you choose within range. Each creature in that area must make a Constitution saving throw. Constructs and undead aren’t affected, and plants and water elementals make this saving throw with disadvantage. A creature takes 12d8 necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Nonmagical plants in the area that aren’t creatures, such as trees and shrubs, wither and die instantly.

Xanathar’s Guide to Everything (page 150)

This spell comes from Xanathar’s Guide to Everything. It is a necromancy spell that deals necrotic damage. It can hurt plants and people a lot, doing an average of 54 damage in the area. Wizards and sorcerers at level 8 can use this powerful spell. Creatures that succeed on their CON save take half the damage, while others will take the full brunt of the 12d8 (max of 96).

But, some things like Constructs and Undead are not hurt by it because they don’t have water inside them. No moisture? No damage. Plants and Water Elementals have a harder time with this spell, rolling with disadvantage on their CON save.

I think this is a great Level 8 spell. It does lots of damage in a big area and can affect many people. It also kills non-magical plants right away. So if you don’t like nature and want to take water out of things, try Abi-Dalzim’s Horrid Wilting.

    Other uses:

    • Unalive a tightly packed crowd of commoners
    • De-weed a 30×30 foot garden immediately
    • Make customers waiting in line for refreshments extremely parched
