“Stop this at once!” The party hears a shrieking voice yell as they travel through a forest. “You kids need to get out of my house right now!” If the party is curious, they can head down the path to a home that appears to be made out of candy and sweets.
The party will find a lane lined with some candy cane bollards, each with some bites taken out of them. As they approach the home, a gingerbread wall blows out of the side of the house, shards of sugary shrapnel exploding across the yard. A haggard woman flails out of the debris, sitting up and coughing out a little cloud of spices.
She is angrily looking into the home at something the party can’t yet see.
The woman is now identifiable as a Green Hag. She is not using any illusory magic or attempting to hide her appearance as she approaches the party. “Oh, thank goodness someone else is here to witness this.”
The hag introduces herself as Rosina Leckermaul, a Green Hag that simply wanted to enjoy her retirement. “I suppose this will teach me to trust strangers,” she sighs. “I caught a pair of siblings munching on my candy cane bollards and when they said they were lost and starving, I let them in and they’ve gone berserk! You must help me!”

A high-pitched squeal comes from inside the house and Rosina sprints in through the front door screaming, “Ginger! No!”
The scene inside:
- Every part of the home that is edible has various bites taken out of it
- There is a gingerbread man construct missing part of his leg and is frantically trying to create a makeshift candy cane peg to replace it
- A teenage male and female tiefling are rummaging around in the home, scarfing down bits of furniture, walls, etc
- The wall that was blown out appears to be from a magical explosion of some sort
- Rosina runs to the gingerbread construct as the tieflings turn their attention to the party.
As the hag turns her attention to the gingerbread construct which she calls Ginger Vitus, the tieflings, with dead eyes, speak in unison. “Thank you for rescuing us, this woman is a witch and was attempting to eat us.” The two are clearly lying, but if left to their own devices will begin rummaging around the home again.
The real story: The two siblings are Hansel and Gretel, tiefling twins causing havoc across the realm. They tricked the witch into letting them in, as they wanted to consume the magic that the house was built with. They believe the magic will interact with their bloodstream to put them into a candy comatose state, allowing their inner abilities to finally emerge. While they believe this, they don’t know which item in the home will trigger their powers, so they’re chewing through everything.
The furniture they are looking for (and Rosina will try to keep them away from) is the orange slice ottoman in the reading area of the house. DMs can determine their own reason for what is special about the ottoman, potentially tying it into the main campaign.
If the twins are in fact able to consume the ottoman, their eyes will go white, as will the eyes of Ginger Vitus, and the three will begin to attack the party and Rosina. It is likely that Rosina will bow out of the fight, hide, or become incapacitated quickly as she has not fought in quite some time.
The Vitus Will Fight Us
If the party is unable to prevent the twins from eating the ottoman and they begin to take over the gingerbread construct, he will fight alongside them. It is impossible to turn him back once this is complete, and the party must destroy him.
Use the following stat block, or something similar for Ginger Vitus.
The twins will fight to the death as they feel that if they fail their mission they will be killed regardless. Lean heavy into chaotic evil with them.
Resolution
If the party is able to defeat Hansel and Gretel, the hag will reward them with one of three tasty pastry-based items, highlighted in our video here. She will be saddened by the loss of her friend and companion construct, but will thank the party and may be able to assist with additional requests.
If the party is unable to defeat the twins, it is likely they will come back in the future, tracking the party wherever they go.
Tiefling Twins Stat Block
The twins take on the stat block similar to an Assassin, leveraging sneak attacks and shortsword attacks.
