Last Christmas: DnD Encounters & Resources

12/3/23 – One day left in our 4-part giveaway on Instagram if you want to enter! You have a chance to get a bag of coffee from Critical Roast Coffee, a large Dungeon Master’s Notebook from The Raven and the Goose, and a Customizable DMs Cloak from Ace of Gnomes! We’ll also write a custom encounter for the winner to slide right into their campaign.

Good news, the Mayor of Mayville should be releasing this week or next as a free-to-play one shot for Levels 1-2. We’ll also be putting it on DMsGuild as Pay What You Want, but everyone in this newsletter will get it for free!

We’ve also got a winter-themed mini-campaign that we’re working on and each encounter this week will tie in in some way. Let us know if you have any other fun winter-themed ideas!

    DnD Creator Spotlight

DM Resource: A bit darker, but this Tome of Shadows holds 52 Dark and necromantic themed spells. Available on DMsGuild as a PWYW. Spells like Grave Rush, or Hypochondria delve deeper into spells that may better suit your necromancer characters:

You attempt to trick a creature into thinking it is poisoned. The creature takes 2d6 psychic damage and must make a Wisdom saving throw or become poisoned. While poisoned this way, at the start of their turn, they take 2d6 psychic damage.

This affects creatures that are normally immune to the poisoned condition, but creatures that are immune to psychic damage are unaffected. The creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of their turn, ending the poisoned condition on a success.

Artist: Arcane Throne – Dark and brutal art style described as “Grim & Perilous” arcane throne has the perfect imagery for darker campaigns (especially Mork Borg). An insane amount of detail packed with small dots and lines, we’ve been blown away with some of these images.

    “Glowing Iron” – Arcane Throne

Maker: The Dragon Trappers Lodge – “We create high quality, pre-supported models with character. Whether you’re a painter, role player, or war gamer are models are some of the best on the market.” They’ve got some incredible free STLs over on Thangs and their Patreon. We saw this STL was available for free and had to share (though we seem to be having some trouble finding it). Regardless! They are giving away free Christmas-themed STLs all December, so check them out!

    Free NPCs

    • Silent Knight, Holy Knight – Oath of Silence Paladin – Because he doesn’t speak, he’s not good at communicating in battle and always gets accidentally stabbed by his comrades, wears jingly bells so that people know where he is. Appears on midnights clear and can cast “Sleep” but with a 1d4 Radiant Healing, causing each affected individual to “sleep in heavenly peace.”
    • Navidad – Griff Merchant – this merchant is a bit shady and is known to haggle to unreasonable levels. A side quest involving Navidad could be one in which the party must Fleece Navidad, to show him that his practices are out-of-date and unsatisfactory.

    This Week’s Encounters

    • Stay Frosty – A woman begs for the party’s assistance in reclaiming two sacred relics to help summon an ancient protector. Party Levels 4-7.
    • Jingle Bell Roc – In order to protect their livestock from any more surprise roc attacks, a village tasks the party with sneaking into the roc’s nesting grounds and strapping jingle bells to its legs. Levels 4-7.

If you have a moment, we’d appreciate it if you could take a quick survey for feedback about what else you’d like to see in these weekly newsletters.
