10/15/23 – “The Mayor of Mayville,” the one shot we’re working on, is coming along nicely and we’ll be launching our Kickstarter at the end of the month. We’ll have a link here once it’s live!
We’re working through some of the room descriptions and starting on the Appendices this week, but we think you’re going to love this one. It will be great for new parties and new DMs, or a fun break from a long campaign to try out the new character you’ve been dreaming of.
DnD Creator Spotlight
DM Resource: Action-oriented Monsters from Matt Colville. We were chatting with someone on Threads about this earlier in the week and it is a great add for boss battles especially. Matt Colville outlines the different parts of creating these actions in a spreadsheet, but it can immediately improve your Nv1 battles to be more memorable. John just did this with a Bookshelf Golem in his campaign yesterday.
Artist: An artist associated with Roll For Your Life, Conor Nolan is the type of artist that can get your creative wheels spinning. The above picture for example, a Frog Pirate Captain, with a cannon for an arm. He’s well-decorated, but what horrors have those eyes seen? What’s his crew like? These are our favorite kinds of images and @nolanillustration has a lot of them (including horse-drawn sleigh pulled by horses).
Actual Play: A potion that makes your butt grow until you’ve become a Centaur? We’re in. Careful Cantrips has been at it for nearly several years at this point, sitting at 47 episodes into their second campaign, posting their Actual Play videos weekly on YouTube. Also available as a podcast. Some solid RP, and a good blend of serious and silly, Careful Cantrip is a great watch.

NPCs
- Triss Floxenboots – A female half-elf Ranger, has an interesting trinket next to her, a rabbit’s head. The taxidermy job was rough and the expression on the rabbit’s face can only be described as horrifying. Mouth agape, eyes going in wonky directions, it looks haunted. She is interested in getting the party to franchise a line of Lucky Rabbit gear if they’re interested.
- Big Bill Flametrain is a small Dragonborn Fighter that is about a foot shorter than average and appears to be slender and frail. As owner/operator of Big Bill’s Barbells and Biceps, Mortuary, Crematorium, and Training Facility, he is proud of the pivot he has made after a recent change from wartime to peacetime in the region. His training methods are bizarre and seem to match those of one Tom Sawyer.
This Week’s Encounters
- Halloweenus – Loosely based on the movie “Halloween,” a town’s pumpkins have been terrorized, and they beg the party to put an end to the madness. Levels 1-3.
- Coralon and the Other Brothers – In this Coraline-inspired encounter, players must help a worried monastery rescue one of their monks from a frightening duplicate world, defeating the monk’s captors: the Other Father and his Other Brothers. This mountain encounter is for party levels 4-7.
- Sow: I Want to Play a Game – Players have been captured by a vengeful hog folk who calls himself “Pigsaw.” They must participate in his sinister game or find their own means of escape in this dungeon encounter for party levels 4-7.
- Freeday the 13th – An historic camp is set to open back up, but there’s is one man who will not leave. The party must help remove the man before his ritual is complete. Levels 4-7

A Mid Summer
- Loosely based on Midsommar, a group of teens living in a small commune tucked away from the rest of the realm are tired of the elders telling them what to do
- They begin gaslighting the elders, telling them they must be exiled so the younger generation can thrive
- They go as far to dress up in a bear costume and try to scare the elders off
- Can the party help resolve their differences?
